J-Dao Sushi Thai

Had takeout for dinner, and overall it was pretty good, with a few exceptions. We ordered a chirashi bowl, gyoza, edamame beans, and an avocado roll. However, their web order interface did not in luxe an avocado roll so we phoned and were told how to order - it didn’t work and we got a salmon and avocado roll instead. Also, the order menu said 5 dumpling but we only got 4 - just as well as they were not good - very overcooked and dry. The fresh fish on the chirashi bowl was fresh and tasty, but the rice was very warm, as was the rice in the roll. Consequently the fish in both dishes was warm - makes you wonder about food safety (although no ill effects one day later). The edamame beans were as expected. So - all in all, an OK meal - the fish was good which is the benchmark for a sushi meal. Too bad about the Gupta and the temperature.

What can I say other than amazing service, food and a very attentive server. She was spot on with her suggestions and spaced out the dishes appropriately so that they didn’t arrive all at the same time. The Hamachi was delicate, spicy and absolutely delicious. The sushi/ sashimi was so fresh, it melted in your mouth. We also had the eggplant with ground chicken that we dove in and forgot to take a picture of .. A great experience… Thank you for a great meal

Our experience may have been uniquely not great, but it was enough of a "thing" to write a review. In short, either be prepared to possibly wait 30 minutes for drinks and 1 hour for food that may be cold (not the kitchen's fault!), or order to-go instead of dining in. It seemed like one waiter really had his job down, but our waitress did not. We had to ask for many things multiple times, including water, hot sauce, an item we ordered that never came, etc. Two large parties (5-8 people) who arrived after us got their food before us (our group was 5 people). The flavors of our food were nice albeit a bit salty, but the entrees for 3 of us were no longer hot, as they had been sitting out for 7-10 minutes before being served to us (we could see them). Our waitress kept touching her face and hair, and coughed into her hands multiple times without any hand washing or sanitizing in between. The kitchen staff was super on it - they were turning out good food at a good pace. The restaurant had a lot of to-go orders, so much that it seemed reasonable to pause to-go orders to prioritize orders in the restaurant, but instead many of us waited at least 45-50 minutes for our food and another 15-20 minutes to pay for the food so we could leave (multiple parties formed a line to pay to try and move the process along). Lastly, and the thing that was maybe the most frustrating, was a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our check. The only notice for anything like that was a small, hand-written sign hidden behind a decoration that said they "may add a gratuity for parties of 2 or more." All in all, just be prepared for a possibly time consuming adventure if you dine in.

I recently dined here, and I must say, it was a delicious experience! Despite its simple decor, the restaurant more than makes up for it with its generous portion sizes and flavourful dishes. From the moment we arrived, the service was prompt, and we didn't have to wait long to be served. The freshness of the food was evident in every bite, and each dish was bursting with authentic Thai and sushi flavors. I ordered miso soup, edamame, avocado roll, veggie roll, and a veggie tofu pad Thai. While it may not be the most visually stunning place, the food speaks for itself. *Sorry…No food photos were taken this time, we were so hungry we devoured everything so quickly before I remembered to take images.
